One of the biggest anime announcements of 2026 has arrived, and the Dragon Ball fandom cannot stop talking about it. Dragon Ball Super: Beerus (Doragon Bôru Sûpâ: Birusu) is an enhanced remake of the Battle of Gods arc, officially confirmed for a fall 2026 release in Japan. With brand new animation, re-recorded voice acting, and a completely rebuilt story, this one has fans split right down the middle.

The God of Destruction Is Coming Back with a Serious Glow Up

Dragon Ball Super: Beerus was officially revealed at the Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri event in Japan. Voice actors Masako Nozawa (Son Goku) and Koichi Yamadera (Beerus) took the stage alongside executive producer Akio Iyoku to make the announcement, and the reaction online was immediate and loud. What made it even bigger was the simultaneous reveal of Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol, an entirely new anime continuing the story after the Universe Survival arc.

The official Dragon Ball website describes this as an "enhanced edition," with a large number of newly added and redrawn cuts, a fully reconstructed narrative, and a story that stays truer to Akira Toriyama's original manga. Every frame has been re-rendered, making this far more ambitious than a simple touch-up. Executive producer Akio Iyoku put it best when he said,

"He is indeed an unpredictable and awe-inspiringly powerful god. Dragon Ball Super is a series that begins to move forward because of the existence of this God of Destruction Beerus" - Akio Iyoku, Executive Producer

According to the announcement, the production actually began several years ago, which explains just how polished the early trailers already look.

What Story Will Dragon Ball Super: Beerus Actually Cover

This is where things get interesting. Based on what has been reported and hinted at so far, here is what the anime is expected to cover:

  1. Battle of Gods arc - around 6 episodes following Beerus awakening and hunting down the Super Saiyan God
  2. Resurrection F arc - roughly 5 to 6 episodes covering Frieza's return and his invasion of Earth
  3. Universe 6 arc - possibly 7 to 8 episodes, based on an unconfirmed report from Dragon Ball insider Venixys

Even Masako Nozawa herself teased that Goku's battle with Frieza would show up in Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, strongly suggesting the series stretches far beyond just the Beerus showdown. That would make this much closer to a full Super remake done arc by arc, though Toei Animation has not officially confirmed anything past the first arc just yet.

Why Is Toei Remaking Something That Already Exists Three Times Over

Honestly, that is the question that started a thousand arguments online. The Battle of Gods story has already been told through the original 2013 film, the 2015 Dragon Ball Super anime, and a condensed manga retelling. So, the frustration is understandable. But there are real reasons behind this decision that go beyond just cashing in on nostalgia.

The early episodes of Dragon Ball Super were, to put it nicely, rough. The animation quality became infamous, turning into memes that followed the show for years. Since those early episodes were direct TV adaptations of the Battle of Gods and Resurrection F films, the drop in quality was impossible to ignore. Executive producer Akio Iyoku has said the goal is to present Toriyama's work with better precision and accuracy. Many also believe the remake is quietly designed to fix continuity problems that Dragon Ball Daima introduced. Because Daima acts as a prequel to Super, it created timeline friction - most notably regarding the Supreme Kai and Kibito's fusion status.

Fan Reactions Are All Over the Place and That Is Part of the Fun

The response to Dragon Ball Super: Beerus has been genuinely entertaining to follow. The new SUPER GEKITOU trailer, shown at the Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2026 event, impressed a lot of people with how clean and sharp everything looks. Even Jason Douglas, the English dub voice of Beerus, could not hide his excitement, saying

"It's an amazing thrill to see Beerus take center stage in Dragon Ball Super: Beerus" - Jason Douglas, English dub VA of Beerus

Fans who have been watching Dragon Ball Super on Crunchyroll for years now finally have a version they can confidently recommend to newer viewers without having to say "just push through the bad animation."

That said, plenty of people are still frustrated. The Moro arc has never been animated, and some feel these resources should have gone there first rather than retreading familiar ground a third time. Others are just happy that more Dragon Ball content exists at all, pointing out that the same team working on this remake is separate from the crew handling the Galactic Patrol production. The SUPER GEKITOU trailer genuinely speaks for itself. The animation is a massive step up from anything the original Super run delivered, and if this quality holds through every episode, longtime fans are in for something special. Dragon Ball Super: Beerus premieres in fall 2026, and no matter which side of the debate anyone lands on, the show is going to be watched by millions.
