After the final episode of Detectives These Days Are Crazy! (Mattaku Saikin no Tantei Tokitara), many fans were left wondering the same thing: is that it? Or is a second season on the way? Officially, there’s been no greenlight yet - but the way things ended has left the door wide open. You can still stream the first season over on Crunchyroll, which includes all 12 chaotic episodes.
Recap of Season 1 in a Nutshell
Season 1 introduced us to Keiichirō Nagumo, a washed-up high school detective who’s now 35, broke, and constantly in pain. He runs a tiny agency that hasn't seen real work in forever - until Mashiro, a loud, unpredictable high school girl, forces her way in as his assistant. From there, things get unhinged fast.
The show leaned hard into absurd comedy - body pillows gone wrong, fake game shows, rocket launchers, and meta jokes about aging, anime clichés, and more. Mashiro basically carried the show with her over-the-top energy, and Nagumo was a solid straight man to her chaos. It was part slapstick, part nonsense, but it hit its mark more often than not. If you’re new to the series or just want a refresher, check out the Season 1 trailer down below:
The Final Episode Hinted at More
The finale was pure mayhem. They swapped the usual ending and opening themes, used a music montage to show future cases (straight from the manga), and somehow crammed three episodes’ worth of content into one. By the time the credits rolled, fans had laughed, questioned reality, and maybe shed a tear knowing it was over - at least for now.
That ending montage wasn’t just random. Many of the scenes weren’t from season 1’s story arc at all, but hinted chapters that the anime didn’t get to adapt. For a lot of viewers, it felt like a trailer for season 2 disguised as a sendoff.
So, When Could Season 2 Come Out?
There's no official date yet, but if production follows the usual pattern and demand is strong enough, we could be looking at a late 2026 release. Season 1 aired in July 2025, so a year or more of production would make sense. Plus, with all the content still available in the manga, they wouldn’t be lacking material.
What Season 2 Might Cover from the Manga

According to manga readers, the anime adapts material through roughly volume 6 and into early volume 7. That leaves a lot of story untapped. Here’s what season 2 might bring:
- Mashiro and Nagumo’s backstory, which the anime skipped entirely.
- A hinted “schoolgirl Maki” storyline that fans are desperate to see.
- The return of weird side characters like the nipple guy, yakuza twins, and the pervy landlord.
- More ridiculous “cases” like running a maid café, selling merch, and battling with Moe Moe Beam Cannons.
- Hints at romantic side stories involving characters like Maki and Asunaro.
- Deeper hints about Mashiro’s true motivations.
One of the more interesting hints was a snowy flashback in the ending montage, which might suggest Mashiro and Nagumo actually met before episode one - something that could give their partnership a deeper meaning.
English Manga Is Way Behind

If you're hoping to continue the story through the manga, things are a bit slow on that front. Only two English volumes are out right now. The next official English release for volume 3 is scheduled for February 24, 2026, which is… a significant wait. Meanwhile, the Traditional Chinese edition is out through volume 15 as of June 26, 2025, while the Japanese release has reached volume 16 as of September 27, 2025.
So, unless you’re reading in Japanese or Chinese, your best bet is to rewatch the anime on Crunchyrollor wait patiently for more manga volumes to roll out.
Mashiro: The Chaos Engine of the Show
What really made this anime stand out was Mashiro. Her chaotic energy, unpredictable behavior, and massive range (thanks to Kana Hanazawa’s voice acting) made her the soul of the show. One moment she’s wrecking a crime scene with a flamethrower, the next she’s singing horribly off-key - despite her VA being a professional singer in real life. As Kana Hanazawa put it about reprising the role:
“I voiced Mashiro in the voice comic, so I’m very happy I get to continue in the anime!” - Kana Hanazawa (voice of Mashiro)
Her comedic timing, insane expressions, and constant “Moe Moe Beam” nonsense never got old. You never knew what she’d do next - and that was the point.
The Humor Was Wild but Worked

This show wasn’t for everyone. Some people bounced off the first few episodes, especially the running jokes about Nagumo being an old man at 35. (Let’s be honest! he acted like he was 80.) But once the show found its groove, it delivered some of the best gag comedy in recent seasons. As director Rion Kujo said:
“We’re delivering a gag anime devoted purely to entertainment…I hope you enjoy it with ease.” - Rion Kujo (director)
Think Gintama, but with less plot and more chaos. Some viewers even compared it to The Vampire Dies in No Time and Grand Blue Dreaming - two fan-favorite comedy anime that never overstayed their welcome.
Is a Season 2 Likely?
While nothing’s confirmed yet, all signs point toward a potential season 2. There’s still lots of material left, and the final episode practically begged for a continuation. Plus, there’s still a big voice actor for a side character who was announced before the anime aired - but never showed up. Suspicious, right?
Until we get confirmation, fans can only hope. And rewatch. And maybe make their own merch - hopefully better than whatever Nagumo tried to sell.
If you're looking for something else to watch while waiting, check out our previous posts on Leviathan Season 2 and Call of the Night Season 3 - both are worth adding to your queue.
Final Thoughts
Whether we get more episodes or not, Detectives These Days Are Crazy! gave us a wild, hilarious ride that stood out from everything else this season. If you like comedy with zero chill and characters that break every rule in the book, this show’s worth checking out - and hopefully, coming back for more.
