Welcome to a world where magic, mystery, and mind-bending visuals collide. If you haven’t tuned in to Lord of Mysteries, now is the time. It’s not just an anime, it’s an experience and the first 2 episodes prove it.
A Start That Pulls You in with Mystery and Magic
Lord of Mysteries throws viewers headfirst into the Fifth Epoch of the Iron Age, setting the stage with church bells, bloodstained rooms, and a man who wakes up with no memory, a revolver in hand, and a name that isn’t his. This is Zhou Mingrui, a man from our modern world who finds himself in a parallel universe, now living as Klein Moretti, a history graduate in a place unlike anything he’s known.
The first episode wastes no time. Within minutes, Klein (formerly Zhou) discovers his transmigration, and things only get stranger from there. The tone is gothic, the colors are stunning, and the mystery is thick from the start. Klein stumbles upon the deaths of his classmates, Welch and Naya, who were involved in something far darker than schoolwork, something that hints at black divination and perhaps even Beyonder sacrifice.
Who Are the Beyonders and What Are the Paths?
This isn’t just your typical isekai. Lord of Mysteries introduces a deeply layered world, and at the heart of it are the Beyonders, humans who gain supernatural powers by drinking potions tied to specific “Paths.” There are 22 Paths in total, and each one is a different journey toward divine power. The lower the Sequence number, the more powerful the Beyonder. These Paths, like Seer, Sailor, and Audience, are central to the entire story.
Klein unknowingly begins walking the Seer Path. But what’s really clever here is that he’s not suddenly overpowered. He’s confused, cautious, and even scared. He fumbles through rituals and investigations, trying to stay alive while figuring out how this new world works.
His first major step? A Luck Enhancement Ritual meant to send him back home. But instead of leaving, he ends up in a mysterious cosmic realm where he accidentally summons two strangers, Audrey Hall (code name: Justice) and Alger Wilson (code name: The Hanged Man). They form what later becomes known as the Tarot Club, a secret gathering of Beyonders who don’t yet know why they’re all connected.
And yes, Klein draws The Fool card, marking the start of something massive.
The Dream World, The Nighthawks and A New Life
Klein’s visions are suddenly interrupted by the arrival of two officers, Leonard Mitchell and the charismatic but eerie Dunn Smith. They question him about a notebook tied to the mysterious Antigonus Family, and the situation escalates quickly when Klein is subjected to a psychic verification.
In this dreamscape, Dunn explains the power of the Nighthawks, a group that investigates supernatural events at night. The psychic tries to dig into Klein’s memories, but thanks to the Gray Fog clouding his past, Klein passes the test. But this is more than just a pass-or-fail moment. It opens a door: Dunn and the others offer him a chance to become a Beyonder himself.
This is where Episode 2 picks up. With dazzling animation and a chillingly beautiful blood moon, Klein accepts the offer and begins training with the Nighthawks. He also takes responsibility for his family, using his new income to move his sister Melissa to a safer home, proving that Zhou’s soul may be in Klein’s body, but his heart remains his own.
The Visuals That Are Breaking the Internet
From the moment the episode begins, it’s obvious why Lord of Mysteries is being compared to Solo Leveling. Produced by Tencent Video and B.CMay Pictures, this anime features over 30,000 frames of animation per episode, and it shows. The magic scenes feel cosmic, the monsters are horrifying, and the attention to detail in the Victorian-inspired world is breathtaking.
And it’s not just the animation. The soundtrack adds layers of emotion and mystery, enhancing everything from dream sequences to quiet family moments. It’s not often that you see Lovecraftian horror and emotional depth working so well together, but this show makes it look easy.
What’s Coming Next for Klein Moretti?
The first 2 episodes lay the foundation for a much bigger journey. Klein has now joined the Nighthawks, but what exactly is the Antigonus Family hiding in their ancient notebook? Why were Welch and Naya really killed? And what will the Tarot Club become as more members are pulled into this mysterious gathering?
Episode 3 is expected to dive deeper into Klein’s training, his powers as a Seer, and the first missions he will take on as part of the Nighthawks. Expect more mysteries, darker revelations, and perhaps the appearance of more Paths and Beyonders that will shape the fate of this strange new world.
