So, season 1 of Pardon the Intrusion, I'm Home! (Tadaima, Ojamasaremasu!) just wrapped up, and honestly, people can't stop talking about whether we're getting a Season 2. Two guys, one wall with a giant hole punched through it, and a woman who treats her favorite manga artist like an actual deity, this show had no business being this charming, but here we are.

Quick Refresher on What Season 1 Gave Us

Rinko is the kind of character you root for immediately. She worships a manga creator named Usada, not realizing he lives right next door, and somehow ends up sharing a wall (literally, thanks to that hole) with him and a quiet, horror novelist named Satsuki. It sounds like the setup for a messy love triangle, and sure, there's some of that, but really it turns into this weirdly wholesome found family thing nobody saw coming. Voice actress Kana Hanazawa, who plays Rinko, summed it up perfectly when the anime was announced:

"I want everyone who watches to get completely absorbed and enjoy it - the kind of shoujo manga moments that make you grin without even realizing it." - Kana Hanazawa

By the finale, an editor gets involved and has the connecting walls boarded up, basically forcing the trio apart for a while. Rinko takes it hard. But of course, the walls come back down by the end, and everyone's back to their odd little routine. It's sweet, it's a little frustrating if you wanted answers, and it's exactly the kind of ending that makes people want more episodes.

Realistic Timeline for a Second Season

Nobody has announced anything official yet, so let's just be upfront about that. But if you look at how these things usually go for shows in this genre, an announcement window of late 2026 into mid 2027 isn't unreasonable at all, assuming streaming numbers were decent and the studio wants to keep the momentum going.

Studios usually like a bit of a buffer before greenlighting more episodes, so there might be some waiting involved no matter what. In the meantime, the show is streaming on Crunchyroll if anyone wants to rewatch or finally start it, and it's genuinely worth pulling up the official trailer for Season 1 again just to remember how fun that first episode energy was.

What Might Actually Happen in Season 2

The manga it's based on are still going, so there's material a second season could draw from. Based on where things stand right now, here's what fans are hoping gets explored next.

  1. More backstory on Satsuki and his ties to Yorn, the beloved kids series he apparently used to write under a different name
  2. Rinko possibly putting the pieces together that her literary idol and her horror-writer neighbor are more connected to her childhood than she thinks
  3. Some actual clarity on whether this turns into a real couple situation or just stays this undefined three-person thing forever
  4. Fukami, the editor, coming back with a little more depth now that she's seen how much Satsuki has grown
  5. New side characters or subplots outside the apartment building, since Rinko barely got any life outside her two neighbors in season 1

The Finale Left Fans Pretty Divided

People genuinely loved Rinko. Across almost every comment thread, she gets called the best part of the show, the reason people kept tuning in week after week. There's something about her being a hopeless otaku surrounded by two much cooler, much more emotionally complicated men that just works. Even manga author Watomura had a famously relatable reaction when the anime adaptation was first announced, admitting they initially suspected it was too good to be true:

"At first I thought it was a trap to get a manga artist's hopes up, and that it would surely be cancelled halfway through... but it seems they're really making it into an anime.” - Watomura (Original Manga Author)

That said, the ending itself didn't land for everyone. A good chunk of viewers were annoyed that Rinko spent basically the whole final stretch crying while both guys kept their distance for the sake of "space," and felt like the show owed her at least one real conversation instead of vague gestures. Others actually defended that choice, saying a forced confession would've felt cheap for characters who are supposed to be adults still figuring their feelings out, not teenagers rushing into something.

Why The Undefined Ending Might Actually Be a Good Thing

There's a surprisingly loud group of fans who don't want this to resolve into a normal couple at all. They liked the messiness, liked that nobody picked a side, and are kind of hoping Season 2 leans further into the three of them just existing together without slapping a neat label on it. Whether or not the studio goes that route, it's clearly a big part of why people are still talking about this show weeks after it ended.

If you're the type who likes speculating about what's next for shows like this, it's worth checking out the piece on Even a Replica Can Fall in Love Season 2, along with the one digging into Botan Kamiina Fully Blossoms When Drunk Season 2, since both cover similar what-could-happen territory for their own fandoms.

Until there's an official word, the best move is probably just rewatching Season 1 and hoping the announcement drops sooner rather than later.
