So, Season 1 of Rooster Fighter (Niwatori Faitâ) just wrapped, and the internet is already losing it over whether we're getting a Rooster Fighter Season 2. Not gonna lie, we really didn't expect a show about a chicken punching demons to hit this hard, but here we are.

Season One Left Fans Wanting So Much More

Quick recap for anyone who missed it: the show follows Keiji, a rooster with a tragic past and a serious demon-slaying problem. He wanders around saving towns, cracking jokes, and slowly revealing this whole backstory about his family that nobody saw coming from a show with this premise. Manga creator Shu Sakuratani himself described the entire series at Anime NYC as,

"a 1980s-style grand battle royale" - Shu Sakuratani, Manga author

By the finale, we'd met Morio, fallen in love with tiny Piyoko, and gotten just enough hints about the bigger demon threat to make the ending feel more like a cliffhanger than a wrap-up. Basically, the show baited us hard, and it worked.

So, When Is Season 2 Actually Coming Out

Here's the not-so-fun part: nothing's confirmed yet. Officially, the show is sitting as "finished" for now. But before anyone panics, creator Shu Sakuratani made his feelings about the anime's reach pretty clear when he said,

"nothing would make me happier than for Rooster Fighter to be enjoyed by audiences all over the world" - Shu Sakuratani

But before anyone panics, it did just get nominated for Best Anime Series at the 2026 Astra TV Awards, which is honestly a really good sign that people in the industry are paying attention.

If we're being realistic about timing, Season 1 only got through about chapter 30 of the manga, and CGI-heavy shows like this one tend to take forever to produce these days. Based on how long the first season took to come together, I'd guess we're looking at 2028 to 2030 if a second season actually happens. Rough, I know, but that's just how anime production works now.

Where The Story Left Off in the Manga

For the manga readers out there, the anime stopped right around the start of Volume 7, chapter 30ish. Which means there's a ton of material sitting there untouched, more than enough for a full second season whenever the green light comes.

Haven't caught up yet? You can stream the whole first season on Crunchyroll in India and Southeast Asia, while viewers in the US can watch it on Hulu and Disney+, and it's worth revisiting the official Season 1 trailer too, just to remember how unhinged this show is in the best way.

What Season 2 Could Actually Cover

Assuming the anime keeps following the manga in order, there's a lot waiting for Season 2 to dig into. People who've read ahead have pointed to a few big directions:

  1. Keiji and the flock travel to a brand-new region of Japan to hunt down stronger demonic threats.
  2. The group encounters a strange, new rooster ally who possesses a very different fighting style.
  3. A major clash with an advanced class of Kiju demons pushes the flock to their absolute limits.
  4. Whatever's going on with that shadowy figure hinted at the end
  5. Piyoko actually growing and getting more to do

Honestly this alone is enough to make us want the studio to hurry up.

What People Are Actually Saying About It

The response to Season 1 has been kind of split, in a good way though. A bunch of viewers weren't thrilled with the CGI early on, it looked a little rough around the edges, but most people agree it got noticeably better once the fights ramped up toward the end. That kind of improvement mid-season isn't super common, so it stood out.

There's also this recurring complaint about Morio dying and coming back over and over. It worked the first time, but by the third fake-out a lot of fans were just rolling their eyes instead of feeling anything. If there's a Season 2, that's probably the one thing they need to fix, because the emotional beats deserve better than that.

Even with those complaints though, most people seem to agree the show earned its emotional moments. It's rare for something this goofy on paper to actually make people care, and that's kind of the whole appeal here.

The Future of Rooster Fighter

If you're into tracking shows that might be getting a comeback, we've also got breakdowns on The Strongest Job Is Apparently Not a Hero Season 2 and The Most Heretical Last Boss Queen Season 3, both worth a look if you like this kind of speculation.

For now, all anyone can really do is rewatch Season 1, keep an eye on award season buzz, and hope the studio decides this weird little rooster deserves a second shot sooner rather than later.
