Second Reincarnation of a Talentless Sage Season 2 News

Not many shows manage to end a season with half the internet arguing about it, but Second Reincarnation of a Talentless Sage (Nidome no Tensei, S Rank Cheat Majutsushi Boukenroku) pulled it off. The finale dropped a pretty loud hint that the story keeps going, and now everyone wants to know one thing. Is Season 2 actually happening or was that just bait?
A Quick Look Back at Season 1
Eftal spent his whole first life being told he had zero magical talent. He ignored that and grinded anyway, eventually earning the title of Lightning Emperor, one of the four strongest mages alive. Then he died, met a goddess, got offered free bonus skills, and turned them all down. Bold move. He got reborn hundreds of years later into a world where magic had gotten noticeably weaker, while he still had all his old power sitting in a kid's body.
The 12 episodes that followed had him enrolling at a magic academy, running into descendants of people he once knew, and rescuing a girl named Anastasia from a genuinely awful noble household. The voice actor behind Eftal, Shūichirō Umeda, summed up the character well when the anime was first announced, saying,
"Eftal had no magical aptitude and yet became a Great Sage. I believe that is because of his spirit." - Shūichirō Umeda, VA of Eftal

The last episode wrapped things up with a kiss nobody really expected and a tease pointing straight at the Flame Emperor, who looks very much like the reason magic fell apart in the first place.
So, When Might Season 2 Show Up
Here is the honest answer. Nothing has been confirmed. The finale flashed a message saying their story is far from over, which usually means either a sequel is being planned or the publisher just wants you to go buy the manga. Both are equally likely right now. Director Hisashi Ishii set the tone from the very beginning, stating in the official anime announcement,
"We are producing this with the same indomitable spirit as the protagonist Eftal. Look forward to seeing Eftal dominate without even meaning to." - Hisashi Ishii, Director
If it does get picked up, the usual wait for a sequel like this runs somewhere between one and two years. That puts a rough guess at late 2027 or into 2028. There is a catch though. The light novel is done, but the manga has not covered nearly as much ground yet, so there may not be a comfortable amount of material sitting there waiting. Anyone wanting to rewatch before then can find the show on Crunchyroll, and the Season 1 trailer is worth another look below.
What The Next Season Would Probably Cover
Assuming it gets made, here is what is still sitting on the table.
- The Flame Emperor storyline, since he is apparently behind the whole magic decline mess
- Whatever the deal is with that monolith and the ancient civilization that got name dropped at the very end
- Eftal and Anastasia, now that she has actually confessed instead of dragging it out for five seasons
- Merlin getting more to do, considering she waited four hundred years for this reunion
- Confirmation on whether other Mage Emperors reincarnated too, which the finale strongly implied
- Actual academy content, because Season 1 set up a school and then barely used it
The Fandom Cannot Agree on Anything

Reading through reactions is honestly entertaining. Plenty of viewers call it flat out bad, pointing at writing that hypes up a problem and then solves it two minutes later. The slave contract that supposedly could not be broken? Turns out Eftal used to break those for fun. People noticed.
And yet a surprising number of those same people watched all twelve episodes without skipping one. There is a whole group describing it as bad but weirdly comfortable, the kind of show you put on without thinking. Others are less kind and call it one of the weaker releases in recent memory. Both camps seem ready to click play on a Season 2 anyway, which says something.
What People Actually Liked

Even the harshest critics tend to admit the visuals held up. The dragon fights looked good, the goddess design got genuine praise, and Anastasia's art was consistently solid across the whole run. Her voice work got called out as a highlight too.
The complaints mostly land on Eftal himself. A man who lived over a century, then got reborn, still acts like he has learned nothing. Viewers kept asking why someone with his knowledge would bother attending a school teaching watered down magic instead of just researching on his own. Fair question, really.
Worth Starting Now or Not

If overpowered protagonists and light fantasy are your thing, it is an easy watch that does not demand much. Just go in knowing the plot wanders and the power system stays vague right until the end. It is not going to change anyone's top ten list, but it fills a gap on a slow week.
For anyone who follows this kind of sequel speculation, we have also covered Daemons of the Shadow Realm Season 2 and Welcome to Demon School Iruma-kun Season 5 recently, both dealing with the same guessing game around release windows and source material.
Until something official drops, that finale tease is all anybody has to go on. Which, knowing this genre, could mean everything or absolutely nothing.
