Okay so if you've been keeping up with Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You (Super no ura de yani sû futari), you already know why this show snuck up on so many people this year. It's not flashy, nobody's got a sword or a superpower, it's just two tired adults smoking behind a store and somehow that's more addictive than half the action anime airing right now. Season 1 is almost done and people are already asking the obvious question, are we getting more of this.

Catching You Up on Season 1

For anyone just wandering in, the setup is simple. Sasaki is a burnt-out salaryman who lives for his after work stops at the supermarket, where Yamada always greets him like sunshine in a work vest. Then there's Tayama, the pierced, blunt smoker he meets out back who he has absolutely no clue is the same woman. He's talked to her as two different people for months now and somehow still hasn't connected the dots, which honestly is either the funniest part of the show or the most frustrating depending on who you ask. Tayama herself has summed up his denseness perfectly in one of the manga's most quoted lines, telling him with a straight face,

"Compared to you, everyone else is somewhat of a mind reader." - Tayama

The side cast has been carrying its weight too. Branch manager Gotou got her own little arc recently with the nervous newcomer Obata, who's basically Sasaki's anxiety turned up to eleven. It gave the show some breathing room before swinging back to the main couple, and it worked well enough that people actually wanted more of these two rather than seeing it as filler. If you haven't watched any of it yet, it's all sitting on Crunchyroll ready to binge before the last two episodes land.

Two Episodes Left, Then What

There's still a little bit of Season 1 left on the clock.

  1. Episode 11 drops September 17, 2026
  2. Episode 12 drops September 24, 2026

Nobody's expecting some huge twist in these last two, but it does feel like the show is circling back to Sasaki and Yamada after spending time on Gotou and Obata. Yamada's already shown she gets a little possessive when Sasaki hangs out with someone else on his smoke breaks, so there's a decent chance the finale leans into that a bit more before the season closes out on its usual quiet, unresolved note.

So, When Does Season 2 Actually Happen

Here's the thing, this show already pulled a weird move once by dropping a bunch of mini episodes early through Abema months before the real season even started airing in July. If the studio and Crunchyroll liked how that worked out, and it seems like they did given how much buzz it generated, there's a real chance they try something similar again for a second batch. Going off that timeline, a reasonable guess would put Season 2 somewhere in late 2027, though nothing's officially confirmed yet. When the anime was first announced back in 2025, manga creator Jinushi said it best:

"Each person only gets to experience seeing a work that is important to them adapted into anime once per work…everyone who cherishes Yansuu can enjoy this precious experience with ease." - Jinushi, manga author

Before getting into what a new season might cover, watch the Season 1 trailer down below if you need a refresher on the vibe, it's linked right in the middle of this whole mess for a reason.

What A Second Season Could Cover

The manga's already way past where the anime currently sits, so there's no shortage of material to pull from if a Season 2 actually happens.

  1. Sasaki slowly starting to notice things don't add up between Yamada and Tayama
  2. More digging into how both of them actually feel about their age gap
  3. Bigger roles for Gotou and Obata now that they've been introduced properly
  4. Hints connecting Yamada to the girl Sasaki helped out years ago
  5. A slow, dragged-out road toward Sasaki maybe, eventually, figuring it out

What People Are Actually Saying About It

Most of the reaction online has been pretty warm, with people admitting they didn't expect a show about two adults smoking to hit this hard emotionally. A handful of viewers even said finishing what's out so far left them feeling weirdly empty afterward, like they didn't want it to be over yet, which says something about how attached people got in such a short stretch of episodes.

There's also a fair amount of teasing going around about how dense Sasaki is, with some viewers joking he might be one of the slowest male leads in recent memory. But even the people poking fun at that seem to agree the show's chill pace and grounded adult characters are exactly what makes it worth sticking with, especially if Season 2 finally starts nudging things forward.

If you're the type who likes tracking these things early, we've also got some speculation up on Farming Life in Another World Season 3 and I Made Friends with the Second Prettiest Girl Season 2 worth checking out while you wait.

Honestly, given how Jiro's animal obsession and Rago's smart mouth have won people over, the demand makes sense.
