Ascendance of a Bookworm Season 5 What We Know So Far

So, Ascendance of a Bookworm (Honzuki no Gekokujou) fans have basically been counting down the days, and it makes sense. Season 4 turned into way more of a rollercoaster than anyone expected, and now that the finale is almost here, everyone's asking the same thing. When is Season 5 coming, and what's actually going to happen in it?

Season 4 Has Thrown a Lot at Us

Quick catch up for anyone who wandered in late. Season 4 covers Part 3 of the light novels, where Rozemyne gets adopted by the Archduke and becomes the temple's new High Bishop. There's been a lot packed in here, her bittersweet visits with her old commoner family, Wilfried repeatedly stepping on rakes he didn't even know were there, and little Charlotte showing up and immediately becoming everyone's favorite by just existing.

People have had mixed feelings on the pacing honestly, since a fair bit of book content clearly got cut to squeeze everything into 24 episodes. But the animation glow up from Wit Studio and the emotional moments have kept people watching anyway, rough fight scenes and all. Producer Keita Yoshinobu, in an interview at Otakon 2026, put it simply:

"The plot never gets boring, and that's a big part of it. Also, fans also grow together with Rosemyne, and that's why I think people have been loving this series." - Keita Yoshinobu, Producer

And the last couple episodes really kicked things into high gear with the kidnapping attempt on the Archduke's kids, so the finale's got a lot riding on it.

The Last Episode Drops This Weekend

Episode 24, called Rescue, wraps up the season and it's not messing around.

This one picks up mid crisis, with Rozemyne poisoned and dragged off while Bonifatius is out there throwing punches to get to her. Expect the rescue itself to be the main event, plus probably some answers about who's really behind the whole scheme. The Georgine faction has been lurking in the background all season, so there's a decent chance this episode confirms just how far their reach actually goes and sets up whatever mess comes next.

What Season 5 Could Be Built Around

Since Season 4 is working through Part 3, which is 5 volumes, the next chunk of story is Part 4, and that one's a beast at 9 volumes. If Season 5 sticks to the books the way the show has so far, here's roughly what's coming.

1. Rozemyne heading off to the Royal Academy and finally meeting nobles outside Ehrenfest
2. Her getting her own set of retainers, including Hartmut and Brunhilde, who both already popped up briefly this season
3. Bigger political stakes involving the whole kingdom, not just her home duchy
4. The aftermath of this kidnapping plot and how far the Georgine conspiracy actually runs
5. Wilfried and Charlotte both growing into their roles as possible heirs

What Fans Are Hoping For

Fans were already doing math on this one way before Season 4 even finished airing. Part 4 being almost double the length of Part 3 has people guessing Season 5 might need two full cours just to cover it properly, kind of like how seasons 2 and 3 split Part 2 between them. Voice actress Yuka Iguchi, who plays Myne, shared something that really resonates here. When asked about Myne's journey, she said:

"There's no cheating in her growth, it's all through her efforts and trial and error." - Yuka Iguchi, VA of Myne

Some have also pointed to hints from publisher newsletters suggesting the next season could land around 2028, which would track with the gap between Seasons 3 and 4.

There's also a pretty common hope that the studio eases off the pacing a bit next time, since Part 4 brings in a lot of new faces and political weight that could use more room to breathe. Given how much this series has grown, both in book sales and its overseas fanbase, most people seem cautiously confident a full adaptation is still on the table, even if it takes a while longer to get there.
